Bev Baker, National Chair

I am delighted to highlight two VIS National Vice Chair positions—Website Approval and Social Media Approval—and explain a little bit about their roles.

The Social Media National Vice Chair is Gail Enault. She has one assistant, Beth Hill. Ms. Enault receives requests at smapproval@nsdar.org for six different social media applications: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest and Twitter. She and Ms. Hill both work on approvals, using the NSDAR Online Policy as their guide. Upon approval, the recipient is sent a congratulatory email and badge.

The Website Approval National Vice Chair is Patricia Hale. She has three assistants: Becky Spalding, Kelly Davis, and Cynthia Clow-Elliott. When a state or chapter creates a new public website or makes major changes to its existing website, it starts the Approval process by sending an email to visapproval@nsdar.org. The approval team uses NSDAR Online Policy and the VIS Writing Style Guide for Webmasters to ensure compliance. Once the website is considered approved, Ms. Hale makes two notifications. First, she notifies the VIS National Chair so a congratulatory email and the NSDAR Recognized Site badge can be emailed to the recipient, and second, she notifies the National Chair of Public Relations and Media Committee as the website is now eligible for "Site of the Month" judging.

These two National Vice Chairs and their assistants are very knowledgeable about their roles. They enjoy working with chapters in creating an online presence to educate the public about DAR.

In each of the approval processes outlined above, a badge is sent for the state or chapter to display proudly on its newly approved site. It signifies official recognition by NSDAR, is a badge of honor for the site, and for the webmaster or administrator who earned the badge by working diligently to follow all the NSDAR online policies! No one should ever misrepresent official approval by copying the badge from an approved site and applying it to her own site without going through the official approval process. All badges must be received directly from the National Chair. Celebrate Stars & Stripes Forever!
