What a joy it is to see chapters sharing their DAR Day of Service photos! Please search social media for #DARDayofService to see examples on public chapter Facebook pages, and of course, don't forget to visit the Service to America Community on the Daughters Online Community to learn more about the incredible ways Daughters are choosing to serve their communities. From roadside cleanups to sorting clothing donations and everything in between, Daughters are sparkling in service from coast to coast. DAR chapters were asked to engage in a meaningful act of community service as near as possible to October 11th—the anniversary of DAR's founding.

Daughters across the nation participated in the National DAR Day of Service, which coincides with and honors the founding of the DAR on October 11 (and throughout the month of October). In the past 10 years, DAR members have logged more than 50 million hours of service! I am certain that our Founders would be proud of the vibrant spirit of today’s DAR, which is evident in the multitude of projects undertaken by our dedicated members.

Our incredible members rose to the occasion this year, demonstrating their boundless creativity through a plethora of projects. And, in the true spirit of sisterhood, they sparkled brilliantly by sharing their inspiring work on social media, accompanied by the hashtag #DARDayofService. I was overjoyed to witness so many of you giving your all to enrich your communities.

Here are some of the projects that Daughters participated in for DAR Day of Service:

      • Cleaning and tidying a historic home and restoring headstones in cemeteries
      • Planting flowers in local community areas
      • Serving dinner to special needs children and their families
      • Delivering and sorting hygiene products to community centers so that they will be distributed to families
      • Donating materials and create gift boxes for Veterans
      • Helping ship children’s books to military and veteran families and their children

However, service does not simply stop there. I hope you continue sharing the stories of your service through local and social media. Don't forget to meticulously record all your volunteer service hours in the Service to America Online Tally! After that, send your tales and photographs to ServiceToAmerica@nsdar.org, so we may share in your accomplishments. Moreover, I encourage you to nominate your Day of Service project for the Service to America Committee Contests. The deadline for entering is January 15, 2024!

Thank you, Daughters, for your unyielding dedication to your communities and for exemplifying the essence of being a Daughter of the American Revolution. I wholeheartedly believe that our National DAR Day of Service is but one star in the constellation of service throughout the year, where you give selflessly. Our Founders would indeed be immensely proud, and I am equally so.
