CHAPTER DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
Every fall, as we count down to the end of the year, we have an opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments our chapters have made and to give thanks for our DAR friends. As a society we provide so many hours of volunteer support for our communities, participate in numerous historic and patriotic events, and provide incredible support to teachers and students, yet did we remember to thank and recognize our members who participated and contributed?
The Chapter Development Commission is here to help you find ways to make every members DAR experience more meaningful and rewarding. An effortless way to do that is to thank your members. How to do this, you might ask? I thought I would just type in the word ‘recognition’ into the search bar on the Daughters Online Community, the DOC, and see what came up. There were 913 results with incredible ideas and suggestions for recognizing members. You won’t be disappointed to do this!
An ‘old fashioned’ thank you note in the mail is a simple and often appreciated gesture. When thanking someone, to ensure you get the most for your efforts, make sure you thank them specifically for what they did, and to let them know how it helped you or the chapter achieve success. Be specific about your thanks and be timely. Don’t wait to let someone know how appreciated they are. When someone feels appreciated, they are usually more likely to participate and contribute.
Giving thanks this time of year, and really all year long, is something that is free and doesn’t take that much effort. Plug this habit into your daily routine. You will be glad you did and can thank yourself too for your efforts.
