The Manhattan Chapter of DAR hosted its March 8th meeting at historic Fraunces Tavern on International Women's Day 2023.  One highlight of the meeting was the pinning of new daughters, Doris Simmons and Colleen Manzo.

The other significant celebration from the meeting was the inaugural presentation of the NSDAR Community Service Award to Lucy Aponte, Founder of Friends of Soundview Park in the Bronx.  Ms. Aponte has volunteered for over ten years in creating a safe space of beauty, enjoyment, art and culture within the 205 acre park.  According to Linda Rhodes Jones, National Vice Chair of Community Service Awards Committee "What I like about this award is that it is not a contest.  Individuals doing voluntary acts of service are all around us.  We just have to open our eyes".  Refreshments and camaraderie were enjoyed by over twenty-five attendees during what was lovingly dubbed, "A Chat and Chew".  Pictured below from L - R are Linda Rhodes Jones, Vice Regent Manhattan Chapter, Awardee Lucy Aponte, and Chapter Regent Sarah Shea Lynch.
