Military spouses are unique. They often did not sign up for service but their service is one of the most important in the military community. Spouses have no choice but to learn to navigate the military system from day one. They experience long separations from their husbands, wives and/or partners and they keep their homes and families moving forward.
Military Spouse Appreciation Day is a day set aside for us to pause to recognize the military spouses around us who have the greatest impact on our lives and our military communities.
I still consider myself a military spouse even though my husband retired from the Marine Corps in 2006. For over 20 years, other military spouses became my family. The support and encouragement was invaluable. And, the women and men who I met along the way are still in my circle of friends and family.
If you know a military spouse, please thank them for all they do on May 12, 2023.
